The spring is in the Massabielle grotto in Lourdes, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, within the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes. It holds an important place in the pilgrimage tradition.
According to the traditional account of the apparitions, on 25 February 1858 Bernadette Soubirous scratched the earth at the place indicated to her in the grotto. Water gradually appeared. Since then, the spring has been linked to the religious history of Lourdes.
For many pilgrims, Lourdes water is a spiritual sign associated with prayer, faith and hope. This website distinguishes that religious context from practical information about containers and requests.
Lourdes water is not presented here as a medicine, a treatment or a substitute for medical care. Accounts of healings associated with Lourdes belong to a particular religious context and do not guarantee any health benefit.
Go to the “Request water” section and fill out the form with your name, email address, complete postal address and country. The association will contact you when delivery arrangements can be offered.
